After allowing a goodwill free-for-all over the past few years, GM warranty has decided to pump the brakes a little. They have put time limits on dealer self-authorization, and are encouraging greater customer participation. We have included a handy list below, but please reference bulletin 11-00-89-005A for full details.

For the following items, empowered dealers can continue to authorize Policy repairs through the 8th year. Starting in the 9th year, dealer policy claims must be pre-approved by the District Manager Aftersales (DMA): Air Conditioning/Heating, Brakes, Electrical, Electronic Components, Engine Electrical and Engine Fuel, Front Suspension/Steering, Clutch, Engine Cooling, Engine/Mechanical, Rear Axle/Suspension, Transfer Case, Transmission (Manual and Auto), Engine Emissions, Fuel/Exhaust

For the following items, empowered dealers can continue to authorize Policy repairs through the 5th year. Starting in the 6th year, Dealer Policy claims must be pre-approved by the District Manager Aftersales (DMA): Body, Glass / Trim, Paint / Metal
